Problems with municipality or of school
Sometimes you cannot go to school for reasons beyond your control. For instance because the municipality takes a long time to offer you a place at a school. Or because there are problems at the school. In these situations, you can ask DUO for extra time to integrate.
Municipality took too long
Are you required to integrate under the 2021 civic integration act ('Wet inburgering 2021')? First, the municipality will make a personal plan with you: the integration and participation plan (PIP). After that, the municipality will offer you a place at a school. If you waited a long time before you could start school, you can ask DUO for extra time to integrate.
Conditions
- You are required to integrate under the 2021 civil integration act (Wet inburgering 2021).
- You are an .
- You have a PIP.
- If you are following the B1 track or the Z track: there was at least 3 months between establishing your PIP and offering you a course.
- If you are following the O track: you could not start your education programme within 6 months of establishing your PIP.
- Your integration period started at least 2 and a half years ago.
Your PIP says what track you are following.
Apply
- Complete the ‘Verlenging inburgeringstermijn voor te laat of geen inburgeringsaanbod’ form.
- Include a statement from the municipality.
- Send the form and the statement to DUO by post.
- DUO decides if you get extra time. You will receive a notice within 8 weeks.
Problems at school
Were you unable to follow lessons because of a problem at the school? For instance because there was a waiting list, or no teacher was available? Or because your school no longer has the 'Blik op Werk' trademark? Perhaps you can get extra time to integrate. The maximum is 6 months.
Conditions
- You could not follow lessons for at least 3 months.
- It was the school’s fault you could not follow any lessons.
- Your integration period started at least 2 and a half years ago.
Apply
- Complete the 'Aanvraag verlenging door problemen met de cursusinstelling' form.
- Send the form to DUO and include your contract with the school.
- DUO decides if you get extra time. We will send you a notice within 8 weeks.
