Problems with municipality or of school
Sometimes you cannot go to school for reasons beyond your control. For instance because the municipality takes a long time to offer you a place at a school. Or because there are problems at the school. In these situations, you can ask DUO for extra time to integrate.
Municipality took too long
Are you required to integrate under the 2021 civic integration act ('Wet inburgering 2021')? First, the municipality will make a personal plan with you: the integration and participation plan (PIP). After that, the municipality will offer you a place at a school. If you waited a long time before you could start school, you can ask DUO for extra time to integrate.
- You are an .
- Your integration period started at least 2 and a half years ago.
- If you are doing the B1 route or the Z route Link opent externe pagina : there was at least 3 months between establishing your PIP and offering you a course.
- If you are doing the O route Link opent externe pagina : there was at least 6 months between establishing your PIP and starting school.
Your PIP says what route you are doing.
You cannot apply for the extra time until 2 and a half years of your integration period has passed. From 2024 you will find information here on how to apply.
Problems at school
Are you required to integrate under the 2021 civic integration act ('Wet inburgering 2021')? And could you not follow lessons because of a problem at the school? For instance because there was a waiting list, or no teacher was available? Then you can ask DUO for extra time to integrate.
- Your integration period started at least 2 and a half years ago.
- You could not follow lessons for at least 3 months.
- It was the school’s fault you could not follow any lessons.
You cannot apply for the extra time until 2 and a half years of your integration period has passed. From 2024 you will find information here on how to apply.
