New civil integration law on due 1 January 2022

The minister wants the new civil integration law to take effect on 1 January 2022.

Postponed until 1 January 2022

The new law was originally due to take effect on 1 July 2021. Unfortunately, this turned out te be impossible.

The introduction of the new law is very complicated. Minister Koolmees does not want people who are integrating to experience any problems as a result of the introduction. Therefore he has decided to postpone the new law. The minister now wants the new law to take effect on 1 January 2022.

Not yet certain

Whether the new law wil indeed take effect on 1 January 2022, is not yet certain. But all the parties involved will do their utmost to achieve this.

Changes

The aim of the new law is for new immigrants to participate in Dutch society as soon as possible. And for newcomers to find work as soon as possible. These are the most important changes:

  • The municipality (town or city) will help people who need to integrate.
  • The required language level will go up from A2 to B1. This means that they will learn even better Dutch.
  • People who need to integrate, will follow an educational trajectory suited to their possibilities.
