New civil integration law postponed

The new civil integration law has again been postponed.

Postponed until 1 January 2022

The introduction of the new law is very complicated. Minister Koolmees does not want people who are integrating to experience any problems as a result of the introduction. Therefore he has decided to postpone the new law. The minister would like the new law to take effect on 1 January 2022. However, this is not certain yet.

Changes

The aim of the new law is for new immigrants to participate in Dutch society as soon as possible. And for newcomers to find work as soon as possible. These are the most important changes:

  • The municipality (town or city) will help people who need to integrate.
  • The required language level will go up from A2 to B1. This means that they will learn even better Dutch.
  • People who need to integrate, will follow an educational trajectory suited to their possibilities.
