The Basic Civic Integration Exam abroad
You want to stay in the Netherlands for an extended period of time. Then you need a provisional residence permit (in Dutch: machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf (MVV)). This means you must take the Basic Civic Integration Exam. Register for the exam.

The requirements for an MVV are on the website of the Dutch Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst (IND). Here you can find out whether you need to take the exam.

Paper registration form
You can also sign up using a paper registration form. In this case you will receive reactions by mail only. It takes longer to receive a reaction when you use a paper form. Do you wish to sign up by paper registration form anyway? Call 1400. Outside of the Netherlands you can call +31 70 214 02 14.
Paying for the exam
You can pay for the exam in different ways.If you register digitally:
- You can choose to pay using iDEAL. For this you will need a Dutch bank account.
- You can choose to pay by bank transfer. In this case, you will receive a payment request by email.
- You will receive a payment request by mail.
Proof of payment
Have you paid? Then you will receive a confirmation by email within 5 working days. A confirmation by mail takes longer. The email or the letter is proof that you paid for the exam. Now you can take the exam. For this you can make an appointment at the Dutch embassy or consulate.
You will receive the results of your exam within 8 weeks after taking the exam. DUO will send you an email or letter with the results.
