Taking the exams

DUO uses the integration exams to test your knowledge about The Netherlands. And to test if your Dutch is good enough. Once you have passed all exams, you get the integration diploma. We recommend that you use Google Chrome or Firefox when practicing for the exams. You have to use Firefox for the Speaking practice exams.

Participation statement

Participation statement

The training for the participation statement is organised by the municipality. The municipality is the city or town where you live. You learn about things that are important in the Netherlands: freedom, being equal to other people, helping each other and democracy. The municipality will tell you what to do. You do not have to take an exam with DUO for the participation statement.

Orientation on the Dutch Labor Market Exam

Do you have to integrate by or after 1 January 2015? In this case, you must also take an exam about working in the Netherlands. This exam is called Orientation on the Dutch Labor Market. This exam has two parts. You complete the result cards and have an appointment with DUO.

A result card is a form that is used for filling in questions and assignments. There are 8 different paper result cards. They can be found on the website. You have to fill in the result cards yourself. Some result cards also ask you to gather evidence, for example, searching for vacancies.

If you have completed your result cards, you can send them to DUO together with the cover page and registration form. DUO will assess the cards. If the result cards are approved by DUO, you have to attend an appointment at DUO. During this appointment, we will talk about the result cards. If this talk goes well, you have passed this part of the integration exam.

The Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market exam is about working and looking for work. You have to do assignments at home or at school, using cards. These cards are called results cards. You fill out the result cards online, in My Integration. Sometimes you have to send an extra letter. This is called an attachment.

What to do

You have to send your result cards to DUO. You can do this in My Integration. You will need a password from DigiD to log into My Integration. Go to digid.nl to read about creating a secret password. You will get an SMS text message on your own mobile phone. Please note that you have to ask for a "DigiD with SMS function".

Once you have a DigiD, follow these steps:

  • Login to My Integration.
  • In the menu, choose Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market.
  • Fill out the result cards and add the attachments.
  • Send all result cards and attachments to DUO. Together, they are called your “portfolio”.
  • You will get a bill in My Integration. Use iDeal to pay the exam fees.

What happens next?

After receiving the payment, DUO will assess your result cards. You will receive an email. There are 2 possibilities:

  • Your portfolio has not been approved. The email will tell you how to get your portfolio approved.
  • Your portfolio has been approved. You can make an appointment for the final interview. The email will tell you how to make this appointment.

The final interview

You will have an interview at the exam location with 2 people from DUO. They will ask you questions about your result cards. The interview takes about 40 minutes. There is no practice exam for this exam.

Did you pass the final interview? That means that you have passed the Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market exam.

Didn’t you pass the final interview? Then you have to submit your portfolio again. You also have to pay the exam fees again. After that, you can retake the final interview.

Did you fill out the result cards online? If so, they are always visible in My Integration. You can use them to practice for the final interview.

Request a diploma assessment

Question 3 on the first card is about diploma assessments. Were you awarded a diploma in your own country? You can have this diploma assessed right away. You do not have to wait for the exams. Did you complete a training, but didn’t you receive a diploma? If so, the academic level of the school will be assessed.

Ask for your diploma to be assessed with  the Diploma Assessment Information Center (IcDW).

There are no costs for diploma assessment as part of your Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market exam.

Explanation and vocabulary

The explanation gives you more information about the Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market exam. The meaning of difficult words is explained in the vocabulary. Both are in Dutch only. You will find them below.
